NPIA’s online procurement process to launch today
The NPIA’s online procurement process, called the National Police Procurement Hub, is to launch today.
The hub will allow police forces to select, purchase and pay for specified goods and services online through a central portal created in partnership with electronic procurement specialist Procserve.
The Lincolnshire Police force will be the first to use the hub, but the service will be rolled out to all 43 forces across the UK by June 2012.
The goods available via the portal are all approved and provided by 500 suppliers, including many SMEs.
The NPIA claims the service will save the police force £30m over six years.
This service will enable collective procurement, thereby harnessing the considerable buying power of the police to lower costs and improve supplier relationships.
It also aims to improve efficiency in terms of billing and processing because this will be done collectively.
